What’s Our Process for Residential Fireplace Construction Projects?

Whether you’re building from the ground up or adding a new fireplace to your existing living space, we’re here to bring your vision to life with quality craftsmanship – and an emphasis on safety. Here’s how we approach every residential fireplace construction project to ensure top-quality results:

  • We’ll discuss your needs and design preferences. We start by discussing your vision, preferences, budget, and functional needs. Whether you want a classic wood-burning fireplace, a gas insert, or a modern electric option, we can set you up right.
  • We’ll evaluate the site and take measurements. Our team will need to visit your home to assess the site for the new fireplace. This includes checking the available space, evaluating structural support, examining existing chimney conditions (if applicable), etc.
  • We’ll make a plan and obtain necessary permits. Based on your input and the site evaluation, we create a detailed design plan tailored to your home. We also make sure permit requirements are met.
  • We’ll complete the fireplace construction process. Our skilled masons and fireplace technicians will follow industry practices and safety standards to get your new fireplace and chimney installed.
  • We’ll do a final evaluation and test. After construction, we perform thorough inspections and tests to confirm that your fireplace operates as safely and efficiently as possible.

Then what? Well, our relationship doesn’t end at installation. We offer chimney cleaning, annual inspections, and repairs to keep your fireplace in tip-top shape for years to come. Ready to warm your home with a custom fireplace? Let’s get started!

Do I Need a Fireplace, Stove, or Insert for My Home?

Do you love the idea of having some type of heating appliance in your home, but can’t finalize your vision in terms of design, style, appliance type, or even fuel type? This isn’t something to mess around with. There’s a big difference in maintenance levels, placement flexibility, and cost between appliance types and fuels, so doing your homework and knowing what’s best suited to your needs is important.

So, what’s the difference between a fireplace, insert, and stove?

  • A traditional fireplace is a built-in masonry or prefabricated unit with an open hearth. Fireplaces provide that classic cozy feel, but can vary widely in efficiency. These are best for larger rooms or open floor plans where the warmth can radiate freely, or for new home construction or remodels where a fireplace can be custom built.
  • A freestanding stove can be set up in a range of places throughout your home, and is known for being highly efficient. No chimney? No problem, as they can usually be vented through a ceiling or wall pipe. If you’re looking for a cost-effective, reliable heat source, this is a great option.
  • A fireplace insert is a self-contained heating unit designed to be installed inside an existing fireplace. Inserts improve the heating efficiency of open fireplaces by enclosing the fire and better controlling airflow. These work best in homes with an existing fireplace that’s underperforming or inefficient. They’re also great for fuel conversions.

So, what’s your situation? If your home has a beautiful, but drafty masonry fireplace that rarely warms the room, upgrading to an insert is a solid route. If you’re starting from scratch and want a classic fireplace experience, consider an open wood fireplace. Short on space and want something compact and efficient? We’ve got a great selection of stoves.

Not sure what you need and don’t know where to start? Our experts are here to help you select and install the right option for your home – from answering your initial questions to making professional recommendations to completing the installation process, we can help you every step of the way.

Do I Need a Chimney To Install a New Fireplace or Stove?

No chimney in your home? There’s good news – you don’t necessarily need to have a chimney already in place to have a new fireplace or stove installed.

Many modern fireplaces and stoves use direct vent technology, which vents exhaust directly through an outside wall using a pipe system – thus eliminating the need for a traditional chimney. These vents are smaller, easier to install, and allow for more installation flexibility.

On the other hand, if you’re installing a new masonry fireplace, it will almost always require a chimney. This chimney is often built as part of the fireplace structure to ensure proper venting.

Don’t want to mess with venting at all? Electric fireplaces don’t produce combustion gases and therefore don’t require any venting or chimney at all. They’re a great option if you want the look and feel of a fireplace…just without the installation complexities.

If you don’t have a chimney, but want a new fireplace installed, we can evaluate your home and recommend the best venting solution for your new fireplace or stove. Whether it’s installing a direct vent gas unit, adding a chimney liner, or creating a custom venting system, we’ll make sure your new appliance is ready for use when you need it.
